Then you use all purpose leather cleaner, then saddle soap. Finally when these have dried apply leather conditioner and leather protector. Make sure you are using the appropriate chemicals and soaps for the type of leather you are cleaning. Using the wrong chemicals could result in the permanent destruction of the leather. Finally, before you even start cleaning the leather make sure you understand what you are doing. Always think ahead, and do not be too rough with the leather. Often time people who really love leather will clean and condition their items before they are ever used for the first time.
