What Are Canister Vacuum Cleaners?
There are a number of different vacuum cleaners on the market today, but one of the more popular versions is known as a canister vacuum. Canister vacuum cleaners consist of a large canister with a variety of attachments added to clean different surfaces. These vacuums can do the work of several different cleaners including a broom and vacuum, which makes them perfect for those without a lot of time to complete their cleaning needs, and those without much storage space.
Canister vacuum cleaners typically have a strong motor with a minimum of 1,000 watts of power. The vacuums have a strong suction for cleaning fabric surfaces such as carpets and the upholstery found on furniture. Some designs also come equipped with a battery pack for cleaning outside areas including vehicle interiors.
These vacuum cleaners also contain attachments for cleaning other objects. One good example is the nozzle attachment to clean dust and debris from electronic items like a radio or television. The nozzle attachment also helps it reach hard to see areas behind the refrigerator or under the couch for example. Many of the models come with brush attachments, typically used on furniture and drapes or curtains.
Canister vacuum cleaners generally contain a pipe that sticks out slightly from the edge of the vacuum. The different attachments slide onto the pipe and snap into place. A large portion of the models on the market today are equipped with extra long power cords: you can navigate from room to room without first having to find a new outlet. They also have castors or small wheels on the bottom of the canister to make moving the vacuum cleaner easier. These vacuums easily slide from softer surfaces to harder surfaces.
There are some canister vacuum cleaners that also come with the option to reverse the direction of the motor. Instead of pulling the dirt or dust into the vacuum, it expels a large puff of air to push dirt out of smaller areas. For example, if you want to clean inside a sofa bed, but the attachments are too large, they can blow the debris outward with the vacuum, and then switch the suction back around. They can then clean the area with minimum effort.
Canister vacuum cleaners work great on harder surfaces like linoleum and tiled or wood floors. The castors on the bottom prevent damage to the floor, while the suction pulls up any debris on the floor. The various attachments work well to clear out corners and edges of the floor. Those with small apartments love these vacuums because they take up less space, and those with larger homes love them as well, because they can easily carry the vacuum up the stairs for cleaning, thanks to their lightweight.
With their attachments and light weight, these vacuums can do even more jobs than their larger and more expensive counterparts.
