How to Put an S Type Filter on a Hoover Vacuum

Hoover vacuums, like all vacuums that contain bags, need the bag replaced from time to time when full. The S type filter bags are used in Hoover canister vacuums such as the Constellation series. Replacing the filter is a simple and easy process, able to be performed by anyone, and with no technical expertise. Be sure the work area is clean, dry and free of debris before beginning the replacement process. Start by removing all of the attachments on the Hoover canister vacuum and remove the AC plug from the wall to prevent the possibility of electric shock.

S type filter bags are HEPA filter bags suitable for use in any environment and recommended for those individuals who suffer from allergies and asthma. New replacement filter bags are the best way to ensure good air quality and to limit dust particles in the air. Place the canister on a hard flat surface and locate the bag lid release latch directly across from the power switch. While it is recommended to change the S type filter on a Hoover vacuum once every two months; if the majority of cleaning takes place in an environment with predominantly fine dust particles, it should be changed more often. Small dust particles can clog the filter holes and cause a loss of suction and air flow, greatly reducing the effectiveness of the vacuum.

Once the release latch has been located, release it and flip the bag lid over using the hinge. At this point, the individual may wish to wipe out the bag lid for additional cleanliness. This will reveal the bag located beneath the bag lid. The S type filter is attached to the vacuum assembly via a plastic apparatus located in the center of the vacuum. A square piece of the filter is inserted into this assembly and should be slid out easily at this point. Remove the bag; to reduce the amount of dust released during the replacement process, a large trash bag may be used to cover the vacuum during the exchange. The owner may also choose to perform this process outside or in a garage.

After removing the bag, dispose of it. A secondary filter is located beneath the S type filter, and it is recommended this be cleaned when the filter is changed. This filter protects the motor and internal mechanical parts form dust and dirt that could prohibit the efficiency of the motor, and in turn the efficiency of the vacuum's suction and air flow. This filter may be cleaned and reused or replaced entirely should it be warranted. Using cold water and a mild detergent; submerge the secondary filter several times and then rinse. Rinse the filter until the water is clear and clean. Allow the secondary filter to dry completely before reinserting. Never use any means, but air drying to dry the secondary filter.

After replacing or cleaning the secondary filter, the S type filter can be replaced. Remove the new filter from its purchased container and slide the square shaped collar into the bag holder. The filter collar should slide easily into the bag holder. Place the bag on top of the secondary filter and attach the bag lid again. Pull the bag lid latch to keep the lid in place, making sure none of the S type filter is overlapping the bag lid cover. Plug in the Hoover canister vacuum and start cleaning once again.
