Royal Vacuum Cleaners

Royal vacuum cleaners are manufactured and sold by the Royal Company. P.A. Geier was working in Cleveland, Ohio when he created a new idea in the world of vacuums. His newly invented metal cleaner was slow to catch on, but it was popular enough that he formed the P.A. Geier Company. Geier created all of the cleaners himself, using a garage in his backyard as a workshop. He began selling these in 1905, but later sold out to a larger company.

After Geier sold his stake in the company, it was changed to the Royal Company. The company began diversifying into other areas, including hair dryers, stand mixers and other household appliances like washing machines. The company also released the Royal Prince, which was the first hand-held vacuum available to the general public. Previous models from other companies were only available for commercial purposes.

In 1981 the Royal Company once again traded hands when a new investor group came onboard. Their goal was to build up the company and turn it into a household name. They did this by placing the Royal vacuum cleaners in regular stores where everyday people could gain access to them. Previously, the company had relied on private orders and newspaper advertising to gain sales and customers.

The real turning point in the company came in 1984 when Royal released the Dirt Devil Hand Vac. The first model had a power cord that plugged into the wall, yet was lightweight enough to carry, and strong enough to clean up large messes. This handheld vacuum ran on batteries, and later models came with an optional charger that plugged into the wall. Many people have owned models of this in the past and had no idea it was a Royal vacuum cleaner.

Royal once again changed names, this time to Royal Appliance Manufacturing. It was purchased by TTI Floor Care North America and remains a subsidiary of that larger company. In addition to vacuum cleaners, they now make accessories for vacuums and rug shampooers. The company also sells a wide range of Royal vacuum cleaners including canister vacuums and upright vacuums.

Throughout the years, Royal has made a number of popular models such as the Royal MRY8200 Upright HEPA vacuum cleaner. This came with a headlight, adjustable height, HEPA filtration and detachable tools. They also made the Royal MRY5200, which was an ultra lightweight vacuum weighing less than ten pounds. It was perfect for those without a lot of space and those who wanted a heavy duty vacuum that didn’t weight a lot.

Another lightweight model was the Royal MRY1000 AiroPro. This canister vacuum had a powerful motor, but was lightweight and came with a strap for easy carrying around the house. It also had features such as an indicator when the vacuum was full and detachable tools. They also released the Commercial Backpack model that fit over the user’s back and had an adjustable noise level to stop disturbances. The MRY910 model was also popular because it actually pounded the dirt and debris out of the carpet as it cleaned, allowing users to vacuum less frequently.
