This Rainbow SE Series canister vacuum is sure to get the job done!

Rainbow Vacuum Cleaners

Rainbow vacuums are unlike other brands.  Instead of having a bag that collects dust and debris until it is full and needs to be changed, rainbow vacuums have a container that holds water and must be emptied after every use.  While some people find it a hassle to constantly dump and refill their vacuum cleaner, the benefits it provides in cleaner air and carpets is well worth it for many.

The history of the brand, Rainbow vacuum cleaners, started in the late 1920s with Leslie Green and John Newcombe. Green started the Rexair Company, which created vacuums using a separator device invented by Newcombe.  This separated dust and particles from the air.  In the mid-1930s, T. Russ Hill joined the company and improved on Newcombe’s idea by adding water to the mix, which trapped the dust.  This made Rexair vacuum cleaners unique, and they quickly adopted the slogan, “Wet dust can’t fly.”

The event of World War II put a halt on the production of vacuum cleaners by Rexair. Instead, they merged with the Martin-Parry Corporation, and began manufacturing war products.  However, once the war finished, Rexair went back to vacuum production and sales instantly started climbing.

Rainbow vacuum cleaners became official in 1955, when Rexair upgraded its traditional vacuum cleaner and rechristened it as the Rainbow.  Sales of this particular vacuum were good, and led to several different models and versions of the Rainbow.  By the 1980s, Rexair had not only created a Rainbow vacuum cleaner capable of both wet and dry pickup, but it also was selling this particular brand of vacuums throughout the world.

Today the company manufactures the Rainbow E Series E-2 vacuum, which is the latest model available in the line of Rainbow vacuums.  Still popular among many people are the older D3 and D4 Rainbow vacuum cleaner models--they now sell used for several hundred dollars.

In addition to their main Rainbow vacuum, Rexair has also developed several tools and accessories to enhance their most popular line.  The RainbowMate is a favorite of many, as it makes it convenient to clean places where the traditional Rainbow has a hard time going, such as stairs or the interior of a vehicle.  The company also sells aromatherapy and fragrance packs that release comforting and pleasant smells as you vacuum.

Of course, there are also traditional tools and accessories that you can purchase for your Rainbow vacuum.  Extension wands, extra long hoses and carpet cleaning solutions are some examples of these tools and accessories.

Rainbow vacuums are not sold in stores, meaning you must find a distributor in your area to purchase a new one.  This tradition dates back to 1959 when Rexair chose to allow individuals to profit at the local level, rather than their corporation profiting at the national level.

While some things have changed greatly with the Rainbow brand of vacuum cleaners throughout the years, the quality offered has remained the same.  This is why many people choose to spend a little more money to ensure their home is clean and free from dust and debris.
