How to Empty a Dyson Vacuum

The Dyson Vacuums were specially designed to keep a strong suction, in order to maintain this you will need to empty your vacuum canister on a regular basis, preferably after each use. This was designed to be easy to do, and it is a lot easier than changing a vacuum bag.

To do this, simply press the button on the handle of the canister. This will pop the canister off the main frame of the vacuum cleaner. This button is at the top of the handle close to the main frame of the rest of the vacuum cleaner. The button may be white or it may be the same color as the accent colors on your vacuum.

Next, empty the canister into a trashcan. Place your canister above or slightly in a trashcan, and push the red lever away from you. This should release the bottom of the canister, which allows the debris to leave the vacuum cleaner. You can shake the canister slightly to be sure all the dust is removed. Be careful not to push this lever until you are over the trashcan, because it can be difficult to clean up the resulting mess.

If you have allergies or a family member with severe allergies you can take a plastic garbage bag and place the canister inside the trash bag. Push the release lever, and then give the canister a good shake to make sure all of the debris has been emptied. Remove the canister and knot the bag before you throw it away. This can be done outside as an extra precaution.

To replace the canister, set it on the base and push until it clicks. This will lock the canister into place and make sure that when you next vacuum everything is working properly. If it will not click into place make sure you have lined everything up correctly and try again.

Occasionally you may want to wipe your canister out with a soft cloth or paper towel, because dust will build up along the edges of the filter and the sides of the canister. You will also need to rinse the filter in the vacuum every six months. You should follow the directions from your owner’s manual, since this does vary slightly from model to model. You can clean many of the connection tubes on each model by popping them in and out of place.

Additionally, you may choose to clean your brush bar on the vacuum on a regular basis. This is especially true if you have a lot of pet hair or long hair that can wrap around the brush. First lay the vacuum on its back. You can remove the guard by using a quarter to turn the slots. Then you should remove the hair by using scissors to gently cut the hair or string free. Be sure that the vacuum is unplugged and make sure not to cut the belt when doing this. When finished replace the guard and tighten
