Dyson Vacuum Cleaners

Dyson is a British company whose main products are vacuum cleaners. What sets the Dyson vacuum cleaners apart from the others is the cyclonic separation. James Dyson, the founder of the company, realized that traditional vacuum cleaners often required a new dust bag to restore suction, even though the dust bag was not full.

When Dyson happened to notice a sawmill using a cyclonic column of air to suck up sawdust in 1978, he decided to use centrifugal particle separation in a vacuum cleaner. His reasoning was that because the vacuum cleaner would separate the dust particles, there would be no need for a bag or filter. However, the process was not easy. Between 1979 and 1984, Dyson would make 5,127 Dual Cyclone prototypes. By 1986, his G-Force finally hit the market in Japan. In 1991, the Dyson vacuum cleaner won the International Design Fair in Japan. This made Dyson a status symbol in Japan and the vacuum cleaners sold for $2,000 each.

Dyson’s original idea was to get other vacuum cleaner manufacturers to license his technology, but they all refused. It is rumored that Hoover thought about licensing the technology, but only to keep it off the market. Dyson made the decision to design, manufacture, and advertise his own vacuum cleaners. He chose to make the dust bin clear so consumers could see the dirt his vacuum was sucking up. His first plant was opened in Wiltshire, England in 1993, in 2002, the plant was moved to Malaysia.

The Dyson DC24 All Floors vacuum cleaner features the Ball technology. This allows for the easiest maneuverability of the vacuum. This vacuum can be used on carpets, hardwood floors, or tile. It is a lightweight, smaller model that offers a lifetime washable HEPA filter.

Those with cats and dogs may want to consider the Dyson DC25 Animal. This vacuum cleaner is specifically designed with three powerful cyclones that spin pet dander, hair, and dirt as well as everyday dust and other allergens out of the carpet. The Animal also features the Ball technology and comes with a lifetime HEPA filter.

Dyson offers a canister vacuum cleaner called the Stowaway. Unlike other canister vacuum cleaners, the Stowaway doesn’t lose suction. The air expelled by the Stowaway is said to have up to 150 times less mold and bacteria. For a canister vacuum, it is relatively lightweight, weighing only 23 pounds, and easy to store.

Dyson recently came out with handheld vacuum cleaners. The Root 6 Handheld is touted as the first handheld vacuum cleaner that never clogs or loses suction. It offers the Root Cyclone technology, which means the suction power is twice that of other handheld vacuums. Another attractive feature of the Root 6 is that it recharges three times faster than other vacuums with its 21.6 volt lithium ion battery. While extremely powerful, the Root 6 is lightweight, weighing only 3.3 pounds.

Dyson vacuum cleaners are so good at suction and filtration, they are approved for people who suffer from allergies and asthma by many organizations including the British Allergy Foundation and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
