How to Clean a Dyson Vacuum Brush
The Dyson family of vacuums provides some of the best suction and cleaning power on the market today. From hard wood floors to carpeting and from sofas to curtains the Dyson vacuum out performs the competition. From time-to-time it is necessary to clean the vacuum brush; over time it will become clogged and laden with dust, dirt, pet hair and debris. Depending upon the frequency of use the vacuum brush will need to be cleaned anywhere from once a week to once a month; sometimes more frequently. A noticeable loss of suction will be present when the vacuum brush needs to be cleaned.
The on board cyclone brush will provide ample cleaning and suction with a little regular cleaning; this is a very simple process, but be sure to allow at least two days for the filter to dry. Start by removing the clear bin on the cyclone Dyson vacuum just as if it were being emptied. On the inside of the clear bin remove the cyclone component; be sure to empty the clear bin prior to starting the disassembly of the cyclone component. Separate the two parts of the unit and set them aside. Locate the small grid of filtering holes on the assembly; this is the filter of the vacuum brush.
Using only lukewarm water, never use soap or detergents as they can deteriorate the filter and assembly, run the filter under the water until it runs clean. Be sure to spin the assembly to get each set of holes cleaned and each time the water should run clean before moving on to the next set of filter holes. At one end of the assembly locate the main hole. This should be in the center of the assembly and either side will do; there is no requirement for which end works better. You can either spray water or run water directly into the central hole to clean it.
Allow the water to run through the unit multiple times to ensure the most dirt and dust is being cleaned out of the apparatus. Repeat these steps until all of the water is completely clean and clear of dirt and grime. This step may take several attempts to gain completely clear water depending upon use and when the last cleaning of the vacuum brush was completed. To be sure all of the dirt and debris are out of the vacuum brush take the assembly and fill it part way with water. Cover the hole and shake gently to free any dirt that may still be on the vacuum brush and repeat as necessary. When the water runs clean the brush is finished. Allow the brush to dry for at least two days; a wet brush can damage or lower the performance of the Dyson vacuum. Reassemble the pieces of the Dyson vacuum. The vacuum brush has been cleaned and is ready for another round of cleaning.
