The Best Vacuum Cleaner for Allergy Sufferers

Those who suffer from allergies know the best way to reduce their symptoms is by cleaning and vacuuming their house often. If there are any pets or dander in the air, they may need to vacuum every day. The allergen particles in the air can make it difficult for the person to breath, and hard for them to do work throughout the day. However, some people make the mistake of thinking that all vacuum cleaners are created equally, which simply isn’t true. The best vacuum cleaners for allergy sufferers are those that use a filtration system.

A regular vacuum cleaner sometimes has problems trapping the allergen particles circling the air, as well as those trapped in the furniture and carpet. Instead of catching the particles, the vacuum just pushes them around. Once those particles are released into the air, they can cause serious problems such as bringing on an asthma attack or triggering asthma symptoms.

Vacuums that use a filtration system like a High Efficiency Particulate Arrestor (HEPA) filter is a much better option. The military saw the benefits of HEPA filters from the very beginning, and used them to capture small particles of radiation before they could be released into the air. HEPA filters were designed to capture small pieces of matter, at least .3 micrometers in size. Studies have found that they are almost 100% effective at their job. These small articles aggravate the asthma condition and make it difficult to breathe.

Some of the best vacuum cleaners for allergy sufferers are those released by Dyson. Their products have received awards in the past for their excellent cleaning capacity and ability to dramatically reduce allergen particles in the air. Many of their models are also specifically designed for those with asthma including the Animal or Allergy and Asthma version.

The Dyson DC17 is one of the better models on the market because it’s marketed as an Allergy and Asthma model. It also received an award from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. This upright vacuum cleaner softly beats the floor as it moves across the carpet to release those hidden particles. It then sweeps them inside the bag before they reach the upper levels of the air, and keeps them trapped inside until you empty out the vacuum.

Another option for allergy sufferers is the DC16. This is a handheld vacuum marketed to pet owners because its powerful motor works very well to sweep up animal dander trapped in the carpet and upholstery. It’s also extremely lightweight, which allows for easier cleaning of curtains and furniture. These areas should be cleaned frequently to prevent allergy symptoms from flaring up.

Allergy sufferers can also pick the Oreck XL Ultra. This vacuum is one of the lightest vacuums around, at just eight pounds, but it also contains a powerful motor for sucking up particles in the carpet. The vacuum also comes with a 7-layer hypoallergenic outer bag. This bag filters down the particles to even smaller sizes as they enter the bag. Additionally, this vacuum has a seal that keeps the particles inside the bag and prevents them from exiting back into the air.
